The Prehistory of the East Midlands Claylands: aspects of settlement and land-use from the Mesolithic to the Iron Age in central England

This research into the prehistory of the East Midlands clay lands began as a result of fieldwalking results from Leicestershire where prehistoric flint and pottery was being recovered from boulder clay areas of the county. This led to the Prehistoric Claylands Project, which was a research aim behind various fieldwork projects by the Leicestershire Archaeological Unit during the 1980s. By 1990 it became apparent that the project required further analysis at a regional level and this publication is based on the results of this research for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Leicester, somewhat abridged and updated since completion in 1996, including additional material prepared as part of the East Midlands Archaeological Research Frameworks (Clay 1999; 2001).
