Camulodunum (Colchester)

Camulodunumlies beneath modern Colchester in Essex, 80 km northeast of London, in what was the territory of the Trinovantes. The name probably derived fromthe pre-Roman oppidum perhaps meaning “the stronghold” or “fortified place” of Camulos, an Iron Age god of war (Crummy 1997).
