Diagnosis and classification of the two main types of endometrial cancer arise from a histological description of the tissue biopsy. Although useful in the initial diagnosis of type, grade, and stage of disease, a more accurate diagnosis and assessment of prognosis is possible by including a series of molecular biomarkers. There are numerous biomarkers available some are well-established, some are only just emerging and others may become useful in the future. Here, these biomarkers are examined against their carcinogenic potential and their putative functions within the molecular pathways they inhabit, so that effective future treatments can be found.
