This chapter focuses on online interviewing. Following a short introduction, in the second section different types of online interviews will be discussed, using the framework of asynchronous and synchronous interviews. In the third section some of the affordances and challenges associated with online interviews are considered, including issues of recruitment, interview design and establishing rapport. This is followed in the fourth section by a short discussion of the ethical issues involved in online interviewing. Key practical suggestions of the types and forms of software used for online interviews are then outlined in a technical guide in section five. The final section six finishes with some conclusions reflecting on the methodological progress and future of online interviewing.
