What are law teachers for? Finding ways to introduce law teachers’ voices through the TEF in the ever-changing HE sector in England

What are law teachers for? Should law teachers have a say for what law schools are for? One would think that the answer is an obvious ‘yes’, but it could be argued that law teachers’ voices have not been heard sufficiently in the debates around this subject. This is particularly worrying considering that changes in Higher Education are altering the academic lives of law teachers in England. Law teachers may feel they are losing control of their autonomies, identities and values, within a sector that is increasingly regulated, monitored and demanding. This chapter discusses the Teaching Excellence Framework, an initiative opposed by many academics, which appears to be based on economic, rather than educational goals.
