Primary Dataset to PhD thesis "Metals, Craft Products and Urban Economy in Late Antique RomePrimary dataset collecting data from PhD research on late antique metallurgy in Rome

This primary dataset contains all preliminary observations and measurements on the materials from my PhD research entitled "Metals, Craft Products and Urban Economy in Late Antique Rome".

My research explores metalworking, with particular regard to structures installed in previously public spaces, in Late antique Rome, combining the archaeological study of three as-of-yet unpublished sites with the archaeometric analysis of their archaeometallurgy-related finds.

The results of my research also show that the looting and recycling of metals took place at different levels and scales; it also shows how this practice could involve different levels of the city's society, reconstructing an economic and social circuit which must have represented an important economic resource for the city.

My conclusions confirm the importance of an approach that combines archaeological and scientific analysis in order to obtain a complete and in-depth picture of the social and economic dynamics at work in late antique and early medieval Rome.
