This guide is designed to help teachers introduce Samuel Pepys and his diary to primary school children. It contains: answers to common questions from learners; information on Pepys's shorthand; background for the 'How did Samuel Pepys write his diary?' activity sheet; and large images of  Pepys's diary.

The guide was created by Kate Loveman and James Harrod for the Reimagining the Restoration project. It includes Loveman's new research on Pepys's shorthand. It is part of a set of teaching resources on the Great Fire first published on the Museum of London's website in 2023.
