Brethren or Sectaries? Richard Baxter on the Congregationalists
journal contribution

Anniversary commemorations of 1662 have tended to focus on the fault lines between
Anglicans and
Nonconformists
. But it is worth remembering that there were serious
tensions
between the ejected clergy themselves. Their paths had
already
diverged during
the turmoil of the Puritan Revolution, and they would respond in contrasting ways to th
e
tragedy of
the Great Ejection.
Nowhere are those tensions better documented than in the
works and correspondence
of Richard Baxter. [Opening paragraph]
