Meaning in the Power Threat Meaning Framework

journal contribution
posted on 2020-06-12, 10:59 authored by John Cromby

The 'Power Threat Meaning Framework' attempts to provide a coherent basis for conceptualising clinical distress, troubled and troubling behaviour in ways that avoid attributing it to unproven and hypothetical biological deficits, and that do not invoke insufficiently valid and reliable diagnostic categories. At the same time, the Framework retains a role for biology and identifies general patterns of distress. This paper describes the concept of meaning within the Framework, identifies some of its influences, and discusses its relationship to other concepts of meaning and to other aspectsof the Framework.
