In the past thirty years, the reinstatement of democracy in Argentina has been accompanied by an upsurge of audio-visual productions that deal with the impact of the last dictatorship. Whereas most of these works have been widely studied within traditional disciplines, there are certain hybrid productions located at the interstices of art and cinema, which still need to be properly analyzed. Accordingly, the aim of this article is to explore an array of short experimental videos that employ ‘a creative treatment of actuality’ (Grierson dixit) but which have not been the focus of academic attention within documentary theorists. Their ways of dealing with memory and its modes of representation reconfigure the traumatic past in the present whilst challenging the traditional documentary genre.
