Prosecution appeals and references – not enough of a good thing?

This article examines the scheme of prosecution appeals and references from substantive
Crown Court indictment matters, examines the justifications and needs for them, and then
analyses their use by means of figures obtained by Freedom of Information Act requests
together with some publicly-available data. Underuse and overuse of the powers are
discussed and solutions suggested.
