Key Points • Identify patients who are at risk of developing sepsis. • Take a comprehensive history and corroborate it with clinical findings. • Remember, sepsis is a systemic inflammatory response syndrome, which may or may not be related to an infection. • Do not rely on any single parameter to rule out sepsis. • Fever and low blood pressure are not essential criteria for sepsis.
