<p dir="ltr">This article analyses the role of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) within the new Cypriot civil procedure rules. We argue that formal recognition of ADR is not enough by itself to eff ect signifi cant change within the reformed civil justice system in Cyprus. T h ere is a need for a fundamental culture shift from an entrenched adversarial approach to the active promotion of ADR as a necessary means of improving access to justice, and we off er proposals to achieve this legal culture shift .</p>
