Health PRomotion Interventions for Multiple long-term conditions in Ethnic minority populations (H-PRIME): A scoping review protocol
This review builds on existing evidence from primary studies and reviews around management of multiple long-term conditions (MLTC). Recent research has identified that ethnic inequalities exist in the prevalence of MLTC [1] and the impacts of MLTC [2]. Ethnic inequalities have also been identified in care quality [3] and experience of primary care for people with MLTC [4]. Past studies targeting risk management and health promotion interventions such as self-management have been identified as ways to tackle MLTC [5], however there is limited synthesis of evidence on interventions for MLTC. A recent umbrella review only found 30 eligible studies on interventions and management of MLTC; none of these eligible studies focused on ethnic minority populations [6]. Another systematic review published in 2024 reported a gap in MLTC intervention focusing on ethnic minority populations [7]. Therefore, there is a clear gap in the synthesis of evidence on interventions to manage MLTC in ethnic minority populations. This scoping review is both timely and pertinent due to the increasing disproportionate burden of MLTC in ethnic minority populations.
