The reactions of compounds containing sulphur-fluorine bonds with tertiary phosphine complexes of the platinum metals in low oxidation state, have been investigated. The preparation and properties of a novel metal-pentafluoro-sulphur complex and new chlorofluoro complexes of platinum rhodium and iridium, are reported. Novel metal containing sulphur-nitrogen-fluorine complexes have been prepared, and their chemical properties have been investigated. The properties of new tertiary phosphine transition metal fluoride complexes, prepared by a variety of fluorination techniques, are also reported. The chemical properties of low oxidation state transition metal complexes, that have been extensively used in this work, are discussed briefly in the introduction. The interaction of various transition metal complexes, with various organic acceptors and donors, has been studied, using visible absorption and electron spin resonance spectroscopic methods.
