A review of the current description of the way olefins and acetylenes are bonded to metals is presented. The preparation of some new fluoro-olefin and fluoro- acetylene complexes of formally zerovalent platinum is reported. The reactions of these and other zerovalent complexes of platinum with strong acids, alkyl and aryl halides and metal halides has been investigated. Some reactions of other group VIII metal complexes, containing hexafluorobut-2-yne, with strong acids are briefly outlined. The oxidative addition of o-quinones to complexes of zerovalent platinum have been investigated. Some reactions of the complex tetrachlorobenzene-1,2-dioxylenediphenylacetylene- triphenylphosphineplatinum are also reported. The kinetic studies carried out on the reactions of strong acids with some zerovalent palladium and platinum acetylene complexes provided some evidence for the proposed mechanism of those reactions. A brief report of some of the reactions of rhodium and iridium complexes containing acetylacetone is presented.
