The broad objective of the WACIT programme is to improve the mental wellbeing of children and youth who have been exposed to complex trauma, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). These include children in care, refugee, street children, and those living in disadvantage such as resource-constrained settings (informal settlements). We work in partnership with community-based organisations (usually NGOs) and research centres across 14 countries in awareness, capacity-building, service improvement, and research projects. Since 2015, when WACIT was founded, we have trained more than 1,200 frontline professionals and community volunteers. We have developed a range of training materials such as psychoeducation resources, manuals, awareness documentaries, manuals, and digital tools.
